Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
