Citizens have come together across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-led offensive on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel responded by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed official remembrance events until mid-October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still were held throughout the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to examine the conditions of the plan.

A high-ranking representative involved in the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The official stated the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, because of conflicting views over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not restart hostilities after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet produce any significant progress," but pointed out that facilitators are working hard to narrow the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Key Matters in Talks

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance deliveries
  • Post-war administration of the area

Citizen Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were murdered and dozens more were captured by Hamas fighters - shared: "No place feels like home now and until all the hostages come back no one will be secure."

"When we see everyone home again, we can relax anew. Then we can commence recover," she added.

In front of the leader's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel states 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Protester a participant stated: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the captives to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Surveys now consistently show that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to conclude in return for the liberation of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers indicated the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side neighborhood, sector and locality districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"When the dusk arrives, the anxiety arrives with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my youngest child who rests his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we monitor the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this truce will not be achieved and that the fighting will come back to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The healthcare center in the urban area said it had received the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including a trio killed in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of that area reported another two victims had been transported. One of them was killed by Israeli forces while looking for aid to the south, health workers stated.

The territory's health ministry reported 25 of the {territ
