One of the co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the company with his partner, disclosed that he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor as part of a personal collection showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Between Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest development intensifies the continuing conflict between the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted how Unilever along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Flavor becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur announced through social media how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem for support for the Palestinian people due to its colors, which mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, leading to the parent company selling their Israel business to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being created through Ben's Best, the activist ice cream brand that originally established in 2016 to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes plus Future Plans

The founder stated how he plans to develop additional ice cream flavors that address concerns that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly by Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years with the organization, citing worries that its independence had been compromised after corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen stated how "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to keep working within the organization to advocate for its independence ensuring that the company can achieve the social mission, the values which it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he told journalists.
