The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
