This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
