Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the goal on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

Everton remain in 14th position and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

After a drab weekday display in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton missing striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' two recognised centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Spurs box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club travel to St James' Park on late October for their next round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
